Marvin Vincent, in his scholarly commentary called Word Studies says this: “If people desire a calf to worship, a ministerial calf-maker is readily found.” Isn’t that an astounding statement. Let me read that again: “If people desire to worship a golden calf, a ministerial calf-maker is readily found.” You know, we want to blame everything on the false teachers and they deserve a lot of the blame, but the fact of the matter is there wouldn’t be false teachers if people didn’t want the ear-tickling messages that false teachers provide.

There’s a lot of ministries out there, they call themselves discernment ministries, and I think some of them do a lot of good but when you look into these discernment ministries they are always critiquing the false teachers. The false teacher said this wrong; the false teacher said that wrong. You know what breaks my heart? It’s not so much what the false teacher is doing or saying; what would be bad enough; it’s when the camera pans the crowd and I see stadiums full of people listening to this false teacher. That’s the heartbreaking part of it, because the false teacher wouldn’t even be in business if there wasn’t some sort of demand within the church for his or her services.

The book of Jeremiah, chapter 5, verses 30-31, says this: “An appalling and horrible thing Has happened in the land [31] The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule on their own authority;” and then the verse doesn’t stop there, it gets to the root of the problem and it says, “And My people love it so!” The reason that these prophets are prophesying falsely and the priests are ruling by their own authority is because that is what these people, in fact, this text says “My people” want, in fact, they “love it” this way.

We’re living in a generation today that’s telling us that the majority is always right. We are inundated with election results that say the people have spoken; the majority has spoken. You can’t even get through the day without being inundated by some survey, created by somebody, telling you what people want. And we think that because people want it a certain way that makes it right. After all, that’s majority opinion; right? If I’m understanding this passage correctly, “they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires,” this is talking about the majority. This is talking about the majority of Christians wanted this. And here the majority is wrong. You don’t determine what is true by the majority opinion. --Andy Woods

Question: "What is the Great White Throne Judgment?"

http://www.gotquestions.org/great-white-throne-judgment.html

Answer: The great white throne judgment is described in Revelation 20:11-15 and is the final judgment prior to the lost being cast into the lake of fire. We know from Revelation 20:7-15 that this judgment will take place after the millennium and after Satan, the beast, and the false prophet are thrown into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:7-10). The books that are opened (Revelation 20:12) contain records of everyone’s deeds, whether they are good or evil, because God knows everything that has ever been said, done, or even thought, and He will reward or punish each one accordingly (Psalm 28:4; 62:12; Romans 2:6; Revelation 2:23; 18:6; 22:12).

Also at this time, another book is opened, called the “book of life” (Revelation 20:12). It is this book that determines whether a person will inherit eternal life with God or receive everlasting punishment in the lake of fire. Although Christians are held accountable for their actions, they are forgiven in Christ and their names were written in the “book of life from the creation of the world” (Revelation 17:8). We also know from Scripture that it is at this judgment when the dead will be “judged according to what they had done” (Revelation 20:12) and that “anyone’s name” that is not “found written in the book of life” will be “thrown into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:15).

The fact that there is going to be a final judgment for all men, both believers and unbelievers, is clearly confirmed in many passages of Scripture. Every person will one day stand before Christ and be judged for his or her deeds. While it is very clear that the great white throne judgment is the final judgment, Christians disagree on how it relates to the other judgments mentioned in the Bible, specifically, who will be judged at the great white throne judgment.

Some Christians believe that the Scriptures reveal three different judgments to come. The first is the judgment of the sheep and the goats or a judgment of the nations (Matthew 25:31-36). This takes place after the tribulation period but prior to the millennium; its purpose is to determine who will enter the millennial kingdom. The second is a judgment of believers’ works, often referred to as the “judgment seat [bema] of Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:10). At this judgment, Christians will receive degrees of reward for their works or service to God. The third is the great white throne judgment at the end of the millennium (Revelation 20:11-15). This is the judgment of unbelievers in which they are judged according to their works and sentenced to everlasting punishment in the lake of fire.

Other Christians believe that all three of these judgments speak of the same final judgment, not of three separate judgments. In other words, the great white throne judgment in Revelation 20:11-15 will be the time that believers and unbelievers alike are judged. Those whose names are found in the book of life will be judged for their deeds in order to determine the rewards they will receive or lose. Those whose names are not in the book of life will be judged according to their deeds to determine the degree of punishment they will receive in the lake of fire. Those who hold this view believe that Matthew 25:31-46 is another description of what takes place at the great white throne judgment. They point to the fact that the result of this judgment is the same as what is seen after the great white throne judgment in Revelation 20:11-15. The sheep (believers) enter into eternal life, while the goats (unbelievers) are cast into “eternal punishment” (Matthew 25:46).

Whichever view one holds of the great white throne judgment, it is important to never lose sight of the facts concerning the coming judgment(s). First, Jesus Christ will be the judge, all unbelievers will be judged by Christ, and they will be punished according to the works they have done. The Bible is very clear that unbelievers are storing up wrath against themselves (Romans 2:5) and that God will “give to each person according to what he has done” (Romans 2:6). Believers will also be judged by Christ, but since Christ’s righteousness has been imputed to us and our names are written in the book of life, we will be rewarded, but not punished, according to our deeds. Romans 14:10-12 says that we will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ and that each one of us will give an account to God.

Flow chart on sharing the Gospel
by Jerry Teets

Every believer in Jesus is an Evangelist, Disciple and Minster to Sinners...whether they are seekers or not. We have a responsibility to fulfill the role God has given us.

(T)he Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed, (another) waters it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor. For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building. 1 Corinthians 3:5-9

Do you not say, 'Four months more and then the harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the reaper draws his wages, even now he harvests the crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. Thus the saying 'One sows and another reaps' is true. I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor."
John 3:35-38

The Gospel

The place to start is to define The Gospel (use good news to avoid Christianese http://www.dictionaryofchristianese.com/faq/ ). Never assume that the person you are presenting the gospel knows what it is or where to find it in the Bible. The religious but lost may have some knowledge of he Bible, but they do not know the gospel of God's grace.

You might open with the question: Have you heard any good news lately? Do you know why Jesus came?

From opening with an ice breaker question you can then explain the gospel. To the right there are four basic parts as you see in the chart.

Next to that are Evangelism tools that you can learn to present the gospel to expand on these points.

To the left of "The Gospel" is the Doctrines associated with The Gospel. Remember there are only four basic parts. However Doctrines are accessories that fill out your presentation. However these doctrines do not apply to every person you share The Gospel with. There is no "one size fits all" gospel presentation. You have to be wise and take a measure to discern what is needed from person to person.

Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.

To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. (Culture)

To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law (religious).

To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's law), so as to win those not having the law. (Pagans and non-religious)

To the weak I became weak, to win the weak.

I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings. 1 Corinthians 9:19-23

The weak: the principle of love on the part of the enlightened for the benefit of the unenlightened. AT Robertson

Below the gospel is a balance. Care needs to be take that our presentation does not cause an imbalance. Too much doctrine or misapplying doctrine during the presentation can over load it an loose the person you are trying to share with.
Too little doctrine can lead to an imbalance that is designed to not offend the person we are sharing the gospel. A gospel lite presentation leads to easy believeism that end with the sinner's prayer and no knowledge of the true gospel.

Any time The Gospel is presented we need to close with an invitation.

"Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters;
and you who have no money, come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.
Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.
Give ear and come to me; hear me, that your soul may live.
I will make an everlasting covenant with you....

The invitation may lead to the person accepting Christ. If they do you will need to follow up with discipleship.

The invitation leads to their rejecting the gospel then schedule a followup to go into the gospel in more depth. A person's new birth by the Spirit may take a lot of prayer and time. Maybe other's need to water what you have planted. Down the road other's may reap the harvest from you soul you presented to Gospel to.

The Sign of Jonah: When Did Jesus Resurrect from the Dead?

by Jerry TeetsApril 22, 2010 at 2:44am
Jesus’ body was in the tomb; His soul/spirit went to the “paradise” side of sheol/hades. He then removed all the righteous dead from paradise and took them with Him to heaven. Unfortunately, in many translations of the Bible, translators are not consistent, or correct, in how they translate the Hebrew and Greek words for “sheol,” “hades,” and “hell.” Got Questions.org

However the language of the Bible says Jesus intended to descend bodily into Sheol/Hades. Look at Matthew 12:40.

For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish.. Matthew12:40

 We need to look at what Jonah experienced;

Jonah toss into the Sea
Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging sea grew calm.
Jonah in the Sea
Before Jonah was swallowed by the fish he floundered in the sea.
You hurled me into the deep, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.

Jonah in the Fish
But the LORD provided a great fish to swallow Jonah

Jonah is swallowed by the fish.

While he is still alive, from inside the fish, Jonah prayed to the LORD his God.  "In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me.

 In this condition Jonah prayed.

I said, 'I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.'
Jonah knew he was dying.
"When my life was ebbing away,
Yet he clung to the hope of being resurrected because he expected to look at the Temple in Jerusalem after this.
I remembered you, LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple.

Jonah in Sheol
After Jonah died his prayer continued in Sheol.

From the depths of the Sheol I called for help.

To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever.

Jonah remembers the experience of sinking down beneath they earth to the roots of the mountain. Jonah's soul and spirit went to the comfort side of Sheol and he expected to be there "forever." But God was preparing His servant to be a type of Jesus' death, burial and resurrection.

Jonah Resurrected
But you brought my life up from the pit (shachath), O LORD my God.Job 33:28, 30, Isaiah 38:17

Then Jonah remembers when the LORD resurrecting him from the dead.
"Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs. But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the LORD ."

Jonah makes a vow to offer to the Lord.
Jonah is Vomited Out
And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights.

Now look at what Jesus says;
So the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. Matthew 12:40

Notice the difference in this second sentence. Do not miss the precision of Jesus' word. In regard to Jonah's body He said it was "in the belly of a huge fish." But in regards to His body He said; "in the heart of the earth." Notice where Jesus did not say "in the tomb." Jesus intends after His resurrection to go in the heart of the earth. Jesus is emphatic about this because He said "the Son of Man will be....in the heart of the earth." Nothing in Jesus' words is symbolic, indefinite, or allegorical. He said He "the Son of Man will be....in the heart of the earth."

How long does Jesus intend to stay "in the heart of the earth?"

For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

AS Jonah...SO the Son of Man. Three days and three nights are mentioned twice. 72 hours, three twenty fours hour days with three periods of of night time in between. In my study of the Bible...any time God has His author repeat a revelation more than once...He intend for us to pay attention.
I know Jesus' resurrected that night after His burial because the scriptures say;
The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus' resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

The tombs were broke open at 3 pm and after Jesus' resurrection after 6 pm at sunset "the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life they went into the holy city and appeared to many people."

This is before His tomb was sealed, this was before the two Sabbaths had passed.

The prophecy of David begins to be fulfilled;

You will not abandon me (David's sould and spirit) to the Sheol, nor will you let your Holy One (Jesus) see decay. Psalm 16:10

Peter commenting on this prophecy said;

"Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb (the place where his body is buried) is here to this day. But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he (David's soul and spirit) was not abandoned to Sheol/Hades, nor did his (Jesus' physical, material) body see decay.
Why?
God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact.
Jesus had to be raised within hours of His death to present to advance stages of decay to His body.

Once death occurs, human decomposition takes place in stages. The process of tissue breakdown may take from several days up to years. The fresh stage of decomposition occurs during the first few days following the death. There are no physical signs of decomposition during this time. However, homeostasis of the body has ceased, allowing cellular and soft tissue changes to occur because of the process of autolysis, the destruction of cells and organs due to an aseptic chemical process. At this point, the body enters algor mortis, the cooling of the body's temperature to that of its surroundings. When the body’s cells reach the final stage of autolysis, an anaerobic environment is created, that is, an environment wherein oxygen is not present. This allows the body’s normal bacteria to break down the remaining carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids. The products from the breakdown create acids, gases, and other products which cause volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and putrefactive effects. VOCs are produced during the early stages of human decomposition.[1] Wikipedia.org
Jesus immortal soul and spirit that He sent to His Father (Luke 23:46) returns to His body.
He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit. 1 Peter 3:18

The Spirit made Jesus' dead body to be alive.
Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father
Through the glory of God the Father Jesus was raised from the dead.
I will raise it again in three days.
Jesus raised His body.

Father, Son and Holy Spirit were involved in Jesus' resurrection as they were at His birth and at His baptism.

After Jesus is resurrected He descends to "the heart of the earth."
He also descended to the lower, earthly regions. Ephesians 4:9

...through whom (through His body made alive by the Spirit) also he (Jesus) went. 1 Peter 3:19

No revelation is given on what Jesus did for three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. What is revealed is that first;

Jesus preached (made a proclamation) to the spirits in prison. 1 Peter 3:19

In all probability, this was preaching in the proclamation of God's message, but it was not evangelism the proclamation of good news. Jesus probably preached a message of judgment and final condemnation in light of His finished work on the cross to these disobedient spirits.

    i. In doing this, there was a completion in Jesus' triumph over evil, even the evil occurring before the flood.

ii. The Bible says that even those under the earth must acknowledge Jesus' ultimate Lordship. Here Jesus was announcing that fact: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth (Philippians 2:10). --David Guzik

God has not revealed what Jesus proclaim to the wicked dead on the other side of the gulf. It is could be as simple as what He said on the cross "It is Finished!" or it was some message of judgment.

Second Jesus gather the souls and spirits of Old Testament saints like David as He foretold in Psalms 16:10. God did not abandon him an the Old Testament saints to stay in Sheol/Hades. Jesus made the way to Heaven by His own blood. Jesus ascends with these captives to heaven in fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy;
"When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men." [Psalm 68:18] He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe. Ephesians 4:8 & 10
The tomb was opened to let witness in to see that Jesus had risen from the dead just as He said He would.

In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.  Acts 1:1-3

Thus Jesus fulfilled the type from Jonah and gave Israel the sign that He was God's anointed Prophet, Priest and King.

New Heavens and New Earth: Before the Millennium or After? | DouglasHamp.com

The placement of the new heavens and new earth traditionally comes after the Great white throne judgment. The trouble is there are too many verses that argue against that. In this short expose, we will consider some verses, that if taken literally, prohibit the above interpretation. Click here for a larger (though not exhaustive) list of verses on the timing. For Messianic Age lectures click here or interview here
The Messianic Age: The Millennium and Beyond (The Beginning of the New Heavens and Earth)

The typical end-times sequencing is
  1. The great tribulation
  2. The second coming
  3. The judgment of the nations (separation of the sheep and the goats) (Mat 25:31-41, Joel 3:2)
  4. The millennium, Jesus ruling with a rod of iron (Isa 11, Rev 20:1-10)
  5. The Great White Throne Judgment
  6. The new heavens and and the new earth
The first thing we need to consider is that the earth will be in such havoc that the Lord must recreate it at (or shortly after) the second coming because it will be uninhabitable; all the oceans will have been turned to blood and be full of rotting dead corpses of all the sea creatures – certainly not a nice place to live!
Then the second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it became blood as of a dead [man;] and every living creature in the sea died. (Revelation 16:3) Then the third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood. (Revelation 16:4)
This will be followed by every island and every mountain moving out of their places.
Then every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.(Revelation 16:20)
In a parallel passage, Isaiah says the earth will fall and not rise again:
The earth is violently broken, The earth is split open, The earth is shaken exceedingly. (Isaiah 24:19) The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, And shall totter like a hut; Its transgression shall be heavy upon it,And it will fall, and not rise again. (Isaiah 24:20)
Finally, the heavens are going to roll up like a scroll.
All the host of heaven shall be dissolved, And the heavens shall be rolled up like a scroll; All their host shall fall down As the leaf falls from the vine, And as fruit falling from a fig tree. (Isaiah 34:4)
The heavens are the same as the veil that the prophet Isaiah talked about
Oh, that You would rend [tear, break] the heavens! That You would come down! That the mountains might shake at Your presence. (Isaiah 64:1)
John, in the book of Revelation, was permitted to see the fulfillment of Isaiah’s request when he noted:
Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. (Revelation 19:11)
Peter told us that the day that the Lord returns is when the heavens will pass away.
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. (2 Peter 3:10)
Whereas Peter stated that the elements would melt with fervent heat, the Psalmist described it as:
The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the LORD, At the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. (Psalms 97:5)
If we should ask why will the earth begin to melt, the answer is that his return is when the earth is finally exposed to his great fiery-lightning presence.
For behold, the LORD will come with fire And with His chariots, like a whirlwind, To render His anger with fury, And His rebuke with flames of fire(Isaiah 66:15) For by fire and by His sword The LORD will judge all flesh; And the slain of the LORD shall be many. (Isaiah 66:16)
The parallel passage in 2 Thessalonians reiterates the truth of that moment:
…when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, (2 Thessalonians 1:7) in flamingfire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our LordJesus Christ(2 Thessalonians 1:8)
Therefore, we see that the heavens pass away and the earth is utterly devastated at the second coming and thus a new heavens and new earth are absolutely necessary. In Isaiah 65:17 God declares that He will make new heavens and a new earth which from reading the passage is occurring at the beginning of the millennium/messianic age.
“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.  (Isaiah 65:17) They shall build houses and inhabit [them;] They shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. (Isa 65:21)  They shall not labor in vain, Nor bring forth children for trouble; For they [shall be] the descendants of the blessed of the LORD, And their offspring with them. (Isa 65:23)) The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, The lion shall eat straw like the ox, And dust [shall be] the serpent’s food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,” Says the LORD. (Isa 65:25)
The new heavens and earth come first and then God’s elect, the Jews, begin to build houses and have children. What definitively demonstrates that the new heavens and earth in this passage is during the millennium is from verse 20 which states that death will still be possible.
“No more shall an infant from there [live but a few] days, Nor an old man who has not fulfilled his days; For the child shall die one hundred years old, and the sinner [being] one hundred years old shall be accursed. (Isa 65:20)
Commentators have either glossed over this passage or, in the case of the Pulpit commentary, have suggested that Isaiah was confused! That idea is based on the suggestion of Delitzsch who suggested that there would be three ages:
  1. The first age, or ordinary human life, as we have hitherto known it a checkered scene of sin and holiness, of happiness and misery, of sorrow and rejoicing.
  2. The second age, or the period of the millennium, in which “the patriarchal measure of human life will return, in which death will no more break off the life that is just beginning to bloom, and in which the war of man with the animal world will be exchanged for peace without danger.
  3. And the third age, or a final state of happiness in heaven; or the heavenly Jerusalem, when death will be destroyed, and sin will be no more, and tears will be wiped from all eyes, and the former things will be passed away altogether. (Rev 21:4) The three ages are distinctly marked only in the apocalyptic vision of St. John the divine. (Re 20 Re 21) Isaiah and the other Old Testament prophets have an indistinct view, in which the second age and the third age are confused together, the characteristics being chiefly those of Age II, but some of the characteristics of Age III being intermingled. (The Pulpit Commentary, 1880 – 1919, Isaiah 65:17)
There cannot be three ages because John clearly stated in Revelation 21:1 that “the first heavens and the first earth passed away” which means that there can only be two ages and not three. God further underscores this reality by stating in Isaiah 66:22
“For as the new heavens and the new earth Which I will make shall remain before Me,” says the LORD, “So shall your descendants and your name remain.  (Isaiah 66:22)
This is stated in in Daniel 7:18 as well:
‘But the saints [Jews] of the Most High shall receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever.’ (Dan 7:18)
Once we see that the new heavens and new earth must go at the beginning of the millennium so many other pieces of our end-times puzzle fit into place. The key is to take things literally. We also begin to see God’s promises to Israel in a different light. I suggest that replacement theology, which has permeated our theology more than we realize, has gotten us off track on the timing of the new heavens and earth. God promised that he will establish the kingdom and the Jews would be the head and not the tail and that kingdom, would never, ever pass away.  (Dan 7:18)
The basic chronology therefore is as follows:
  1. The great tribulation
  2. The second coming
  3. The judgment of the nations (separation of the sheep and the goats) (Mat 25:31-41, Joel 3:2)
  4. The new heavens and and the new earth (possibly before the judgment of Joel 3:2)
  5. The millennium, Jesus ruling with a rod of iron (Isa 11, Rev 20:1-10)
  6. The Great White Throne Judgment
The rethinking of when the new heavens and new earth occur takes time to accept. It took me a while because I kept thinking that no thinks that and therefore I shouldn’t believe it either. But then I just kept seeing it in Scripture. In the end, the plain interpretation of Scripture won.
