Rightly Dividing the Word and the Apostle Paul

 Some principles of practice to be observed in the proper interpretation of the Scriptures.......Mark Rogers

Hi Mark ... perhaps I am missing something. Why would Paul get a mention here, but no other man who was moved by The Holy Spirit to set down God's Holy Word? Gary Smitham

Gamry Smitham That's a good question Gary. I suppose the author of the list should have included the names of the other apostolic NT writers: Peter, John, James, etc. However, we do seem to receive the bulk of our NT theology, eschatology, soteriology, etc from Paul. Mark Rogers

Paul is mentioned because the ascended and glorified Jesus revealed:

The seven mysteries

  1. Christians Would Be Indwelt by the Holy Spirit
  2. The New Testament Messiah Bears Little Resemblance to the Old Testament Concept of the Messiah
  3. The Gospel Message of “Faith Plus Nothing Equals Salvation” Was First Revealed in the New Testament
  4. The Rapture of the Church Was Hidden from the Old Testament Saints
  5. Jews and Gentiles Would Be Molded Together into One Body
  6. All Israel Would Be Saved
  7. Christ Calls Believing Followers to Bind Together in a Group Called the “Church”
Identification truth (Romans 5:20-39) that we are:
  • crucified,
  • buried,
  • resurrected, and
  • ascended;
  • our heavenly position;
  • our co-heirship and
  • co-reign with our Beloved Bridegroom,
and much more.

Church truth

  • Propitiation,
  • Reconciliation,
  • Justification,
  • Identification,
  • Redemption,
  • Sanctification.”
..that are in his epistles.

Galatians 1:11 I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin. 12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.

This does not mean (like hyper-dispensational teachers teach) that he supplanted the apostles....he complemented what they taught and progressed revelation.

Galatians 2:8 For God, who was at work in Peter as an apostle to the circumcised, was also at work in me as an apostle to the Gentiles. 9 James, Cephas[c] and John, those esteemed as pillars, gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship when they recognized the grace given to me. They agreed that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the circumcised. 10 All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I had been eager to do all along.

Classical Dispensationalism and Pauline Dispensationalism are complimentary.

Church history records two major "recoveries" of Pauline teaching. This first focused upon the foundational truths of the authority of Scripture (sola Scriptura) together with justification by grace through faith (sola gratia plus sola fide), and is identified with men like Martin Luther (1483-1546) who were contributors to the great Protestant Reformation. The second recovery of truth, which in part built upon the first, is identified with John Nelson Darby (1800-1882) and the Plymouth Brethren, which arose during the middle of the 19th century. Darby set forth "...the Scriptures to be absolutely inspired by God and the sole authority for faith and practice," as well as "the sovereignty of God, election, assurance, acceptance, and unconditional eternal security." http://withchrist.org/pauldisp.htm
